Hi,

I was just reading an interesting article on dyslexia and wanted to share my thoughts and get some feedback.

I recall at least one person in my year-and posibly a couple of others-who seemed to have incredible difficulty reading aloud, on those occasions we were asked to-and I think this was also true of their reading in general.

Now, it seems to me they must have been undiagnosed dyslexics-nobody seemed to be aware of it as a condition when I was at school. It's a big deal here and I am sure it must be in the UK too. How would DMGS deal with it now? Do kids get special classes and extra help as they do here.....or are they left to sink or swim. Listening to that classmate of mine read was excruciating! I am sure he must still have awful memories!

Stev, Steve S used to analyse stools, so he's better qualified than I to judge! The burning question on my lips is "Where's your stool then?"

Now I've won you over with my charm, I wonder if anyone would be interested in a little board game I've devised today? Called "A day at Drayton", the idea is to get through the day as fast as possible, with an odd chuckle here and there. It is still an unborn infant, really, but I thought I'd put the board and cards up on the Web and send you all a link, to see if you liked it...

Link will follow later (unless you all beg me not to, of course!)

Hi Stev,

YES my brother is indeed Ravi! He is very talented artistically and is currently an animator/director-works as a freelance and is based in London. He has done loads of nice stuff both here and in the UK. I haven't seen a lot of it as I am usually here in the US, but among other things he did the FX for the Max Headroom pilot-years ago. His most recent achievement is the CG for One Day in September, which won the Oscar for Best Documentary last year!! When I told the office they were incedulous!

See where working on Phoenix can get you!!

I have to say Sandya, it is a rather stunning piece of cyber-stooling, and I'm glad you appreciate the importance of the bold step our web-site has just taken. Rest assured, there will be more of the same on this page shortly.

Is your brother's name Ravi? I saw his name alongside a rather stunning piece of art in one of the Phoenixes. Does he have artistic talent and did he go on to utilise it if he did? (apart from the splendid stool he made in woodwork that is).

Incredible! What a stool! Looks just like the one my brother made. I sent him a link, hoping it will imprint upon hoim the urgency of the need to update the page with more photos.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

It's efforts like this that make this website unique!

Even here, in SEATTLE for God's sake, the sheer impressiveness of this achievement comes across undiluted. What more can I say -send them by superfast telemetry to other planets?.... Try Europa-seems to have the highest odds of life in THIS solar system. I am sure the inhabitants will be impressed too!

Just to let you know...
We have stools! Plus there are some more incriminating pics of Grazey in the personal gallery.

Rest In Peace Don.

My prayers are with Jackie, Carly and Andrew and the rest of his family and friends.

I'll make sure that Don is remembered in our prayers at church on Sunday.

From all of us who remember your humour and your friendship, thanks Don.

John - such terrible news and an awful shock for his poor family. I also didn't know Don that well at school but I got to know him quite well after he left. He lived not too far from me in Northolt and worked for a while, with Alan Swann at the Esso petrol station at the top of Lady Margaret Road and I used to go there in the evenings to chat and try to blag a go on their motorbikes. I remember Don's was a Triumph Trident and he eventually let me ride it. A gentle giant and an altogether decent guy. I sure he will be very sadly missed by all his friends.

John. For the first time on this discussion board I am truly lost for words. I am really sorry to hear the news about Don.

John, thank you for letting us know the news, albeit so sad. I too have very fond memories of Don at school and it comes as a terrible shock to hear of his passing. I remember him particularly as someone who always seemed to have a smile on his face and he certainly brightened up the lives of everyone he came into contact with. Our lives were that much richer for having known you, Don.

John, I'm really sorry to hear that news, especially sad at this time of year.

I'm sure we'd all appreciate it if you passed our well-wishes on to Don's family. I didn't know him very well, but he always seemed to me to be a genuinely nice guy, I never heard him say a bad word about anyone.

My overwhelming memories of him are in the company of Nigel Brooks, amazing that two such larger than life characters should appear at the same time and place in two such similar bodies. I'm sure all our lives are the richer for having known him.

I know I don't normally join in with the conversations even though I do normally go through and read them. The reason for me logging on today is to pass on to you all some very sad news.Unfortunately last thursday,Don Cook passed away after suffering a heart attack. He will always be remembered as a big man with an even bigger heart of gold.Don will be missed greatly by all those people who knew him and especially by his wife Jackie and his children Carly and Andrew. Our condolences go out to all of them.
You will be sadly missed Don by us all.

Can't wait to see them-the stools that is....

Perhaps the site should be In Memoriam Jock Hislop.

well I crept into His Lordship's nusery this morning and had a look, and there it was, in all it's orange and beige glory (why on earth did I pick orange?) Yes, I have found my stool. It was indeed supporting a large rubber plant, which will be removed tomorrow so I can take a pikkie.

Pez.. thanks for the other pics, they too will go up tomorrow along with our stools. I'm going to be really cheeky and do my coffee table as well, even though the page is to be called "stools".

Probably not better, but still....
Jock's Box

Round the Corner (I rather like that one - the more you look at it...)
Raffia Reborn
Pity it was Boys-only, precludes "The Lady Varnishes"
Love's Labour Lost
Much Ado About Nothing
Love is a Many Splintered Thing
I Came, I Sawed, I Conned Cord.
25 Years in the Joint
Against the Grain
Knotty Ash
Trail of the Lonesome Pine
Little Brown Jug - no, wait a minute, that's pottery...

Well done Pezz for being the first with your stool. Will christen the new section with it hopefully tomorrow. I've yet to find mine although I think it may be supporting a plant in the nursery. I only remember to look for it after His Lordship has gone to bed, but I really will check tomorrow.

After much brain wracking, and careful thought, I've decided that the most apt definition for the web page displaying our stools should be entitled "stools". Rather cryptic yet clever methinks. Anyone got a better idea?

Virus alert

I know a few of you (like me) uses NTL for email etc. I had someone called Jeff Faust (NOT!!!) send me a suspected Virus attachment this morning; the mail pretended to be about Networks and routers. If you get it, delete it unread! It's the first I've had for ages that targetted NTL mail addresses rather than the ones I post on the Internet.

Well done Pezz

Phew, glad to get rid of that unwelcome mantle, Stev! All 3 functioning neurones were starting to show signs of RSI!

Actually, I think I first heard Judge Dread in Steve S's manky old car (it was his Dad's, so I guess I'm on safe ground there... ) - Did you have a tape, Steve?

Stev,
You mean it wasn't fire extinguisher foam and peas??? My lasting memory (nee nightmare ) from school lunches has to be the mashed swede. I am sure that the interview process for being a dinner lady included a Soggy Swede Lobbing Trial. Candidates were judged on Consistency, (both of the lob and the swede), Style (amoeboid grace of the resultant deposit), Accuracy (ability to obliterate all pre-existing signs of edible matter), Speed (on the lph scale of course), Technical merit (intricacy of ladle flourish) and of course lastly and most definitely leastly Flavour (for which presumably no marks were ever awarded ).

Steve
